How To Use Explore Manage Registry

When we edit and manage registry, they must first run the Start menu, click Item, and then enter "regedit" to open the Registry Editor. Are you tired of this operation? In fact, we can use another method to manage registry - take the registry into Explorer.

First, take the registry into Explorer

Achieve the method editing registry in Explorer is not difficult, just follow these steps:

First, download a control of Explore in http://www.regxplor.com/regxplor.dll, and copy it to the system32 folder under the path of Windows installation. And then run "regsvr32 regxplor.dll" (double quotation marks do not enter) in "Run" item, register this control in the system.

Now, you start Explore, at the bottom of the left folder list, is not it a "Registry" item? When you select the "Registry" or a branch under it, you will find there is a "Registry Explorer" item in Explorer.

Tip: You can also put "Registry" item in the "My Computer", "Control Panel" or any folder, simply right click on "Registry" and select item under "Move to", then copy it to the appropriate location. For example, select "Move to → Control Panel" can be placed in the Control Panel.

If you want to unload the control, click "Unistall Registry" item in the "Registry Explorer"menu.

Second, common operation of the registry

Expand the "Registry" item, you will find several familiar primary key in the Registry Editor, to locate a branch, you are fully operate it as in accordance with the Registry Editor. The management of the registry are also very simple, for example, to delete an item, you can select delete on the keyboard after selected (as delete files or folders); to view a key in the new Explorer window, you can select "open" in the right-click. Here I will introduce several major functions.

1. Registry Export

If you want to export a branch, you first start it, and then click the right mouse button, from the shortcut menu, select "Export", enter the file name in the pop-up "Save As" dialog box, it will pop up the "Export Type" dialogue box, where if select "Normal" then you can select branch and its primary key export it save as . reg fileas in the Registry Editor; and if you choose "Inverse", then export other primary key in addition to the selected items.

2. create primary key

Similarly, when create a primary key in a branch, select it and select "New → Key" from the shortcut menu, then select the primary key, from the right menu select "rename" convert it into the corresponding name.


Tip: You can also choose to create a string value (String value) , DWORD value (DWORD value), the binary value (Binary value) and multi-string value (MultiSz value) and so on in the lower menu of "New" menu.

3. Registry backup and restore

When to back up the registry, you can choose "Create backup" item from the shortcut menu, then enter the file name, so the backup will be created in a dat extension file.

Later to restore, you can click the right mouse button again, from the shortcut menu select "Restore backup", then find the last backup dat file, open it.

4. Copy registry key

Friends often written manuscript will get the path characters of a registry key using the "Copy Key Name" in Registry Editor, now, in Explorer select and expand a registry branch in Explore, select "Copy full key name" will be able to copy down the path from the shortcut menu, you can paste it in word processing software.

5. Find the registry key

Right-click on "Registry" or other primary key, select "Find" from the shortcut menu can open the search dialog box of the registry, in which, you check the search key (Keys), value ( Values) and data (Data) like in the Registry Editor, and you can also set whether the search is case-sensitive (select "Ignore cas" is case-insensitive) and so on.

After set up, enter keywords in the text box, click the "Find" (Figure 3) will start the search.

6. Set registry key access rights

If you do not want other accounts modify some registry item, modify permissions can be set, the method is: select the branch which you want to set the permissions, from the shortcut menu select "Security ...", then you can set it in the pop-up dialog box.
